Mosaic Shell Mirrors

I am really proud of this project. It was pure inspiration, inspired by no one else but me. With all the ideas and crafts floating around, you know how big of a deal that it. We live in the age where hardly any ideas are unique. But no, no, I'm not claiming that I was the first person to get this idea or execute it, but I have never seen one like this, so I felt pretty proud when it turned out so well.

As I drifted in and out of my parents house between semesters at college and such, my room slowly started turning into the room of requirement as it started collecting cast off frames, mirrors, bedding and the like. I found these awesome mirrors that my mom had bought at IKEA years ago, with some purpose I'm sure, however they wound up in the pile in my room. I knew I wanted our bathroom to have a Cape Cod beachy feel, so when I saw those lonely mirrors I instantly had this idea of gluing shells to the mirrors. I went to Michael's, and luckily they didn't have larger shells like I had in mind, but these broken shell pieces, which ended up working out way better anyways.

Little did I know what a laborious, tedious, back-breaking project it would be! It took me the whole Memorial day weekend to finish these three mirrors, which took an astonishing 6 hours a piece to do--luckily I had Colonel Brandon, Mr. Knightly and Mr. Thornton to keep me company. Maybe I'm just a little too much of a perfectionist, but each piece was individually chosen for each spot. I know I'm insanely meticulous, me husband tells me all the time.

It's a great touch in our small bathroom, cost me very little and it gives my husband somewhere else to shave in the morning, rather than making me share the other mirror in the bathroom ;)

DIY Pom Pom Balls

I found a picture of this on Pinterest and just had to try it. It seemed like the perfect inexpensive DIY home decoration, and it was!

First you wind the yarn of your choice around your hand (don't wind it so tight that you can't get it off your hand though) about 120 times, you can do more or less to get the thickness you want.

Tie a string around the middle of your bunch of yarn (tie it tight) and then cut all the loops that are formed.

Once you cut all the loops, you'll get a scraggly, yet recognizable pom pom.
Trim the edges until you have a recognizable pom pom.
And my lovely husband found these branches for me while on a walk. You will want them to be fairly sturdy and varying in heights.
All I did was slide the stick into the pom pom and voila!
I had a leftover vase with pebbles in it from my wedding reception that I used. You can use any bottle or vase you want. You don't have to use a filler at the bottom, but in this case I thought the pebbles added.

And here it sits on my shelf above the toilet. It was super easy, quick and adds some style without taking up a lot of space!
